A stand is a mechanical product until a coil goes into it, and then it is a radio with a licensing question attached. Inductive charging transfers power through a magnetic field, which is regulated transmission, and the Qi mark is licensed by the standards body rather than self-declared — so a stand that shows the mark without the licence behind it is making a claim its maker is not entitled to make. Where there is no coil the questions are honest and mechanical: the angle the device sits at, whether the cradle still closes over a phone wearing a case, and how the cable is retained so the joint is not carrying the weight of the device. That last one is the commonest failure in this leaf and it never appears in a photograph. Ask for the case thickness the cradle is designed to accept, in millimetres, because a holder that fits a bare phone and nothing else will be returned by the people who buy cases.
